Chapter 6 – Chosen tomorrow

In a 24-hour bakery under a neon star sign, the story of Starlight Bakery Shift continues its soft pulse. A pastry chef with perfect timing and a delivery driver with terrible luck keep colliding before sunrise. Today, the focus is a clear choice for Iris and Theo, celebrated quietly by June in a 24-hour bakery under a neon star sign. Nothing here is loud or cruel; everything is ordinary tenderness: shared errands, careful jokes, and the kind of attention that feels like a light left on.

Iris arrived earlier than planned, pretending it was about schedules and not about hope. The air smelled clean, almost sweet. Iris checked a phone, put it away, and practiced looking calm. When Theo appeared, the pretend calm cracked into a real smile. “Iri,” Theo said softly, as if the nickname were a secret password. Iris answered with a nod that meant more than yes.

Theo carried the day like a careful map. Lists, keys, a joke ready in case silence stretched too long. Theo noticed the way Iris tucked a loose strand of hair, the way footsteps slowed near familiar doors. “Hey, T,” Iris tried, testing the sound. Theo laughed once, surprised and pleased. Nearby, June cleared a throat in the friendliest way possible, as if to say: do not waste this light.

June had opinions, of course. June always did. “You two act like the world will end if you admit you like the same table,” June said, arranging cups or tools or paper with efficient hands. Boss June had seen enough almost-romances to recognize one blooming. “Iris Park and Theo Kim could write a guidebook on circling the point,” June added, not unkindly. Iris blushed. Theo pretended to check a watch that did not need checking.
